Stephen Ministry
Oak Road Lutheran Church is proud to be part of the Steven Ministry program. Through this care ministry, members of Oak Road Lutheran Church provide Christian care giving to other members of the congregation and the community. The Steven Ministry philosophy centers around the idea that all Christians are ministers, and the program allows people with special gifts for the caring ministry to use those gifts to bring Christ's love to people in need.
Steven Ministers receive 50 hours of training in providing high-quality Christian care to individuals experiencing a crisis or challenge, such as divorce, grief, job loss, hospitalization, relocation, or loneliness.
How the program works
When Stephen Ministry care is requested, the congregation's Steven Ministry referrals cooridinator meets with the person, explains the program and assists in determining whether the program is fit for the person's needs. The referrals coordinator then matches the care receiver with an availabel Stephen Minister who will call the person and meet with them for approximately one hour each week as long as the need exists.
Everything a care receiver says to his or her Stephen Minister is confidential. the Stephen Minister does not try to solve problems, but listens, cares, prays, and helps the care receiver find the path to healing and wholeness.
